Promote free and open source software development to not be ignored by public funding anymore.

Europes IST funding

We need to promote free/libre and open source software (FLOSS/FOSS) development to not be ignored by European Information Society funding (IST) anymore!

Consorship: EU IST censored the OSPRO session, but the session #513 is still reachable with a direct link: Censored Session: Go there and subscribe to it to express your displease!

The European funding has a volume of 1900 million Euros!

Research institutes get 100%, companies 50% and free/open source gets 0%: Let's change this!

  1. Universities get 100% sponsoring

  2. Companies get 50% sponsoring

  3. Free/Open Source gets 0% sponsoring

  • Free/Open Source is currently the greatest revolution in IT

  • It has a multi billion Euro economical impact with its benefit and follow up services. This is probably more than the influence of the research institutions mentioned above.

  • Its development is in huge parts done in 'spare time' and most of the time for free.

  • The output of Free/Open Source often outperforms university and company results

  • Free/Open Source is ignored by EU (or better it is actively discriminated): Free/Open source attendees to The Hague need to pay a 350 Euro fee (400 these days):

This without any consideration of the fact that their work is done in spare time and for free. Free/Open source groups can't ask for sponsoring without being members of a company or a research institute.

  • The IST project spends public money, our money (my taxes, my 350/400 Euro fee)

  • The IST responsible sleep away the biggest IT movement but claim to work for the future of European economy.

You can express your disappointment about this by subscribing to session #513. The more we are the louder our voice will be!

You can also discuss your view on the mailing list OSPro Forum and on our OSPro Wiki Page.

What can you do?

Please subscribe to the censored IST session #513 as soon as possible!

Decentral organizations

Decentral organizations as described by Malone are nowadays a matter of fact, but are ignored by official organizations like IST EU which are responsible to efficiently manage public money.
